Origins & Properties

The genus Oenothera have originated in Mexico and Central America and spread farther north in North America and into South America. With the advent of international travel, species are now found in most temperate regions of the world.

King’s cure-all or common evening primrose is an erect biennial with leafy branched stems. It grows up to 2 to 6 feet tall. The bright-yellow, four-petaled flowers open at night.

Common Uses

Primrose is commonly sold as a dietary supplement in capsules containing seed oil. The plant has traditionally been used to treat bruises, hemorrhoids, digestive problems, sore throats, and numerous other conditions.
