What is Melatonin?

Melatonin also called the “sleep hormone ”, is produced by the pineal gland at dusk. It plays a fundamental role in regulating our body clock as is responsible for the sleep/wake cycle.

The Suprachiasmatic Nucleus (SN) is a receptor in the brain that reacts to light and generates a regular flux of hormones in the body. The cycle stops when less light is transmitted; resulting in what we simply call: a sleep cycle.

A long flight, exposure to screens, artificial light, age, stress, smoking… all are factors that can affect the secretion of this hormone and lead to insomnia or difficulties in falling asleep.
