Joint Pain: Drop the Anti-inflammatory Drug for This Natural Solution
Our body is made of hundreds of very mobile but nevertheless fragile joints.
Joint pains are common and can occur at any age.
Get back to sustainable healthy joints!
Among young people, joints pains are often trauma related, mainly due to sports injury. These affect different tissues: cartilage, membranes, synovial fluid, ligaments, etc…
In children, ankle sprains, for example, represent over 15 % of injuries.
From a certain age ( between 40 and 50 years) joints suffer the consequences of ageing and the accumulation of toxins in the body. We witness the breakdown of cartilage, called osteoarthritis and hardening of certain tissues. This degeneration causes chronic pain in shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands, hips, knees, feet and back.
The term ” joint pain” includes many other disorders such as inflammatory arthritis (cartilage), gout attacks (increased uric acid), rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis (immune system disorders), etc.
These troubles are more or less serious, depending on their causes, their chronicity and intensity.
These pains are generally characterized by:
- Variable intensity of pain that appears for no apparent reason, suddenly or gradually. It can short (days or weeks) or persistent (weeks or months)
- Stiffness after a period of inactivity (especially upon waking)
- Lack of flexibility
- Difficulty moving and using members (loss of mobility)
- Pain in the joints during movement
- Swelling, redness, warmth, general fatigue and prolonged stiffness (one hour or more) in inflammatory forms.
Age-related joint problems are considered incurable. Most of the available treatments, aim at relieving pain and improve joint function but they come with many side effects.
Fortunately, other alternatives are now available:
✔️ Adopting a healthy lifestyle and performing appropriate exercises is a great way to start.
✔️ Choosing a natural and effective alternative to “Conventional” anti-inflammatory and analgesic treatments is even better. Some plant extracts have been shown to be particularly effective to fight inflammation, reduce pain and improve flexibility and mobility.
HARPAGOPHYTUM: A POWERFUL & NATURAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY
The root of Harpagophytum (or Devil’s claw), is recommended worldwide for its analgesic and very powerful anti-inflammatory properties. It is also recognized as an antispasmodic, antirheumatic and for its stimulating properties of the immune system.
Harpagophytum is composed of many active ingredients such as harpagosides (strong anti-inflammatory and analgesic), flavonoids, phytosterols, phenols, glycosides and cinnamic acid as well as many vitamins and minerals.
Many clinical trials have documented the major anti-inflammatory and analgesic actions of its components, and is proven as effective as synthetic drugs.
Harpagophytum, helps to significantly improve mobility and relieve pain in cases of musculoskeletal disorders: arthritis, rheumatism, back pain, tendinitis and sore back1,2. Its analgesic effect can be beneficial in case of trauma, accidents, and injuries3.
“TSE ” CURCUMA COMPLEX : NATURAL ANTIOXIDANT, PROTECTION OF CARTILAGE AND ANTI-INFLAMMATORY
Turmeric root contains a specific molecule used for many years in traditional medicine: curcumin. Powerful antioxidant, it helps protect the body from damage caused by free radicals and helps fight inflammation. It is also known to slow bone demineralization.
Turmeric is the natural anti-inflammatory reference, particularly for joint pain and osteoarthritis, since it inhibits several causes of cartilage destruction. However it presents a major weakness: poorly absorbed by the body, a minimum dose of 1200 mg per day is necessary to be effective.
Turmeric Supercritical Extract (called TSE) is an extract obtained from standardized Curcuma Longa L.. A specific curcumin extraction process allows to increase its anti-inflammatory potential and to multiply its absorption capacity by 37 folds: A dose of 32mg of TSE is bioequivalent to 1200 mg of regular curcumin extrat.
Clinical tests conducted on TSE at the Research Unit on Bone and Cartilage of Liege University Hospital have demonstrated the remarkable efficacy and safety of TSE extract: it is the first fast-acting natural anti-inflammatory analgesic comparable to NSAIDs (< 1hour)
GLUCOSAMINE HYDROCHLORIDE AND CHONDROITIN SULFATE: NATURAL ANTI-DEGENERATIVE FOR JOINT
They both act tin synergy to stop the progression of osteoarthritis and relieve joints. They stimulate the synthesis of new cartilage while regulating the enzymes responsible for their destruction.
✔️ Glucosamine is produced by the body. It plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of all joints’ cartilage. With age, the body production becomes insufficient, cartilage begins to degenerate and osteoarthritis settles in.
Glucosamine hydrochloride, by increasing the lubricating effect of the synovial fluid, helps slow the degradation of cartilage, in contrast to conventional anti-inflammatory drugs which in the long term, accelerate joint degeneration4.
Several studies have shown that glucosamine hydrochloride reduces pain, improves mobility, and accelerates the healing of people with injuries to cartilage5,6. It also can act on pain due to rheumatoid arthritis7.
✔️ Chondroitin sulphate, also produced naturally by the body, is an essential constituent of cartilage. Component of cartilage connective tissues that ensure the hydration of cartilage and thus promoting its elasticity and flexibility8.
Chondroitin sulphate is chondroprotective :
-
- It supports cartilage cells’ synthesis and hyaluronic acid, a substance which supports the viscosity of the synovial fluid and lubricates between the synovium and cartilage.
- It protects the cartilage against enzymatic reactions (production of hyaluronidase) and against damage from free radicals.
- It could also inhibit osteoclasts, which are cells that play an important role in bone loss.
Chondroitin has been the subject of several meta-analyses and synthesis, which conclude on its effectiveness to relieve the symptoms of mild to moderate osteoarthritis9.
When combined, Chondroitin and glucosamine are particularly effective in preventing the progression of osteoarthritis: they help to stop or slow down the degeneration of joint tissues10. Two American studies conducted on double-blind and controlled placebo indicate that the combined intake of glucosamine hydrochloride and chondroitin sulfate was effective in relieving symptoms of osteoarthritis of the knee11,12,13.
Associating Chondroitin and glucosamine with “TSE” will increase their effectiveness and speed of action.
Only a blend combining the benefits of these active ingredients can have real action to prevent and improve inflammation in cases of joint pain, promote joint flexibility and maintain healthy cartilage.
However, as a warning, it is important to remember that consuming a blend of natural plant extracts can potentially be harmful. The market of natural supplements offers a wide selection with various compositions, dosages, and ingredients origin. It is essential to pay particular attention to the dosage and the concentration of the active ingredients of the product as well as its provenance.
